In Poland, for geographical, cultural and historical reasons, interest in Eastern Europe has always been significant. Since 2004, the European Union has been a direct neighbour with Eastern European countries, which also calls for a greater interest in this region. In addition, Russia has traditionally attracted the attention of the Western world.

One response to this great interest in this region has been the publication of Nowa Europa Wschodnia (New Eastern Europe), a Polish bi-monthly published by the Kolegium Europy Wschodniej im. Jana Nowaka-Jeziorańskiego in Wrocław, Poland.

Texts published in the journal focus on Eastern Europe in the form of analysis, opinion articles, reports, interviews, and book reviews. Our authors write about the history of the region, contemporary politics, the economic situation, cultural affairs, and everyday life in the region. We believe that only in such a diverse way we can try to show this fascinating part of the world better
to our readers.

This Special English Compilation of Nowa Europa Wschodnia aims to show the English-speaking Reader a broad selection of articles from our Polish issues. This is, of course, only a small selection of our texts, which have been published since 2008, the year when our journal was established. We have decided to select texts mainly of the Polish authors to show how the Poles think about the East. Nonetheless, among our authors are people from both the East and the West. Among them are: David Cadier, Vitaly Portnikov, Richard Pipes, Adrei Ryabov, Lilia Shevtsova, Andrew Wilson and many others. We hope that among the readers of this issue we will also find many new friends and authors.

Cytat:
